It’s that time of year again, so we brought back everyone’s favorite birthday-based WCIPA: “The Hustle is Grotesque”! 

Happy early birthday, @_whit_baker_! “The Hustle is Grotesque” was brewed last year as a multi-collab West Coast IPA in celebration of Whit’s 40th birthday! We wanted to celebrate this momentous occasion with our bud, so we got together with Whit’s project Ancillary Fermentation and his other buds Vicious Fishes Brewing, Casita Brews, Forgotten Road Ales, and Wilmington Brewing joined in to make this one a real one! Thanks so much to all the collaborators for coming down and making this one happen for Whit! It was so good we had to rebrew it (and this time we actually have it out before Whit’s birthday!). Whit’s been an insanely welcoming member of the NC Community for us, especially in the Raleigh/Durham area, so this one’s for you, bud!

Mashed with Riverbend Malt 2-Row, Chit Malt, and Munich, and a dash of Proximity Malt Wheat. Hopped on the hot side with Columbus throughout the boil, then hit with Citra in the Whirlpool. Fermented with our House Ale yeast to maximum dryness, spunded for dat natural carb, and then dry-hopped one time and rather aggressively with Michigan Copper, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Centennial Cryo.

We experience a mouthful of Starburst candies, that first hit of citrus when your nail digs into the zest, wafts of refreshing blueberry leather, a cup filled with all sorts of miscellaneous fruit juices, sticky sappy danky nuggies, and of course the pain and joy of 40 years well-lived, all at once. Here’s to 40 more years, you beautiful man, you!
