You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into…wait…where are we? DAMMIT, I’M “ZONING OUT”!
“Zoning Out” is a new DDH Hazy IPA called forth into existence with fellow weirdos and art enthusiasts, UK’s very own @beakbrewing, in honor of our upcoming UK trip to Dark and Wild, and it’s here to remind you that sometimes it’s okay to not pay attention to the monster on the plane wing. JUST DON’T BRING IT UP!
With our upcoming UK trip to Dark & Wild Beer and Music Festival, we absolutely knew we had to coordinate with some UK folks and bring the heat for our first UK distro drop! And of course we had to drop a DDH Hazy IPA on y’all! Working with the Beak crew on this was super fun and enlightening. Slightly modifying our approach to the style at a couple different points took one of our beloved base recipes and totally flipped it on its head. A true alternate reality version of our base was born and we are so so so here for it.
Mashed with a hybrid base in our approaches to the style, which turned out to be shockingly similar, comprised of @riverbendmalt Cumberland Pilsner, Wheat, and Chit Malt with a hefty dose of Flaked Oats. We wanted to focus on Southern Hemisphere influence on our “MORE” saturated DDH IPA base, so we hit it VERY HARD Egger’s Rakau and Mosaic Cryo in the Whirlpool, as well as a hefty Hot Dip of Citra Dynaboost in the Fermenter. Fermented with a new-to-us Extra Fruity IPA yeast. Dry hopped FIRST and rather aggressively with MORE Egger’s Rakau and Citra. Then dry-hopped a second time with Citra Cryo, a very hefty dose of Egger’s Motueka, and something super duper fun and exciting (AND FROM AN ALTERNATE DIMENSION MAYBE?!): a custom Simcoe and PASSIONFRUIT Liquid Lupulin hop extract blend.
Just jumping out of the glass with notes that take you through an experience similar to rolling a pinner with Blueberry Fruit Leather instead of rolling papers, then walking through a Citrus Grove on your way to a Farmer’s Market in search of the most perfect White Grapes and the ripest Cantaloupe you ever did see. Somehow this turned the knobs on fruity and stanky electric jazz cabbage all the way up, in a way that only Southern Hemisphere hop profiles manage to do.
And remember…I was supposed to research some super quippy Twilight Zone references here, but this beer was so good that I kept drinking it while writing this and I zoned out and now it’s too late. So let’s just pretend this is the reality where I did that, okay?
Available on draft and in cans on 10/17 in AVL and DRM. And available in the UK with limited distro in a few weeks!
