“Shroopy” is here! It’s what happens when a Shrek and a Snoopy have a lovechild. Don’t ask how it happens, but it makes sense that it’s a heavily adjunct Blended Barrel-Aged Stout with Wild Thai Banana, Oreos, and Marshmallow!
We started off with a base of Maris Otter, layered on a bevy of specialty and roasted malts, ran a continuous boil for over 6 hours, and hit it with some extra sugar in the kettle to get the base of this thiccccc Imperial Stout where we wanted it.
We fermented it low and slow, cold-conditioned it for many moons, and then threw it into 10-year Henry McKenna Bourbon barrels for 37 long months. After the long slumber, we pulled the beer from the barrels, dosed in freshly toasted Wild Thai Banana, a veritable carload of fresh-crushed Oreos, and a heavy smattering of Marshmallow, then blended in some fresh-brewed Imperial Stout for that extra-fresh-milk-chocolate character! (And to blend it out to 13% ABV, cuz Shroopy is chill like that.)
This Blended Barrel Aged Stout sat on the mountain of adjuncts for a long while prior to packaging, and the result is pretty spectacular. Huge, thick, sticky Chocolate-covered Banana up front, boozy-rich Oreos dipped in Kahlua, and this is pretty much just a mug full of Cookies and Cream ice cream slathered in Marshmallows and poured over rich-AF fluffy Chocolate Banana Bread on the finish with a very heavy floater of Bourbon and a beautiful kiss of Oaky tannins. It’s got layers like an Onion, but also tastes absolutely nothing like an Onion at all. Come on, check out Joe Cool’s swamp with him. It’s ogre, now!
WARNING: We used copious amounts of fruit and cookies and don’t recommend cellaring the cans. Keep it cold and drink it fresh, y’all!
