Brewed in collaboration with our dear buds Proclamation Ale Company, we whipped up a super fun treatment for some Imperial Stout we had rested in barrels 20 months ago, and it’s pretty dope. Proc is releasing their version of BA Imperial Stout with the same treatment AND a super special IPA we whipped up with them for their Anniversary, so if you were planning a Rhode Island road trip…now’s the time!

“Psychic Charges” is a 20 month Bourbon Barrel Aged Chocolate Caramel Pecan Turtle Imperial Stout. And if you think that’s a mouthful, wait till you try the beer!

20 long months ago, we laid down a batch of Imperial Stout in freshly dumped Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels. The last time that we had a visit from the Proc crew, we happened to be sampling barrels for some other projects, and we all agreed that one particular barrel required a treatment that our buddy Dave Witham had dreamt up with us many moons prior: Chocolate Caramel Pecan Turtle.

We conditioned this on a hefty bounty of Madagascar Vanilla Beans, heaps and heaps of Cocoa Nibs from French Broad Chocolates, a slathering of Caramel, and more Roasted Pecans by volume than we’ve used in any beer before. 50#/bbl of them, to be exact!

We experience beautiful squares of homemade Fudge, lil’ Pecan Turtle treats drizzled in hot Caramel, a beautiful kiss of Vanillin from the barrel, the feeling of actually being a Turtle on your back flailing in the hot sun, and all of that is just absolutely smothered in a warm blanket of Bourbon. Dangerously drinkable for 11.5% ABV, and the perfect treat for this cold weather!
