“Lil’ Wampus Cat” is a new DDH Hazy DIPA beckoned unto this plane with the Lupulin Wizards of Manchester, @trackbrewing, and it’s here to just…like…be a cool lookin’ Cat that didn’t need to fit the mold of spooky and scary Halloween stuff cuz we can just do whatever we want when there’s cool art for a label. OKAY?!

Next up in our series of UK heaters in celebration of our upcoming trip to Dark and Wild Beer Festival, we had to dial it way the fuck up with a DDH Hazy DIPA! Collaborating with the Track crew on this was honestly incredibly eye-opening in the best way. We found we both have some pretty different approaches to the style, but that we lean toward using the same Yeast and have a shared love for Egger’s Nelson Sauvin. So of course we hit up Kem and got some EXTRA CHOICE Late Harvest Nelson Sauvin just for this. 

Mashed with a modified base of Track’s approach and our own (which turned out to test the limits of our Mash Tun), comprised of @riverbendmalt Cumberland Pilsner and Czech Pilsner in equal proportion, along with Chit Malt and a HEAVY HEAVY dose of Wheat, then an equally HEAVY HEAVY dose of Flaked Oats. Boiled at a lower pH and comprised of a Pale grist specifically to try and minimize Malt character. We really wanted to focus on the extra fruity character from Egger’s Late Harvest Nelson Sauvin, so we hit it VERY HARD in the Whirlpool, complimented with Egger’s Riwaka, and a hefty Hot Dip of Citra Dynaboost in the Fermenter. Fermented with our House IPA Yeast. Dry hopped FIRST and rather aggressively with MORE Egger’s Late Harvest Nelson Sauvin and Rakau. Then dry-hopped a second time with Freestyle’s Rakau Amplifire Pellet Hops and Nelson Amplifire Oil, another very hefty dose of Egger’s Late Harvest Nelson Sauvin, and something super duper fun and exciting (AND TOTALLY NEW FROM EGGERS!): Mike’s Magic Mix, which is a pelletized blend of Lupulin leftover from the pelletizing process across multiple different varietals at Egger’s Farm!

This evokes the fondest of memories: of an Orange Julius getting into a hazy streetfight with a bag of Gummy Bears, one of the first hit off a fresh vape of White Grape and Sour Diesel, and most relatably, one of frozen Pineapple chunks rolled in dehydrated Lime and Fruity Pebbles in the morning, but with a nice chill Jazz tune in the background and the faint wisp of Marijuana somewhere in the distance. This is easily one of the most hop-saturated beers we’ve produced in a long time and it really really really rips

But, like, seriously…this is saturated to the max. TONS of that bright, stanky, punchy, resinous, and somehow equally fruity character we all love from Nelson Sauvin, but amplified in every way by perfectly complimentary hops and a VERY chewy/soft Malt bill. Also, that’s a pretty crazy teleporting Cat, right?
