What’s that commotion, you ask? Is it a mysterious creature lurking in the shadows? Is it the rumble of an approaching Balrog?! NOPE! It’s two sauced hobbits slamming down a second pint of “Unknown Beast” everyone’s beloved, lauded, ONCE A YEAR SPOOKY-TIME TREAT WITH A SURPRISINGLY LARGE AND VOCAL CULT FOLLOWING THAT REMINDS US CRAFT BEER IS ALIVE AND WELL: Schwarzbier!
Our journey begins with a foundation of @Riverbend Chesapeake Pilsner, complemented by a blend of Specialty and Roasted Malts. We’ve infused it with Hallertauer Mittelfruh throughout the boil, and we’ve tossed in a generous helping of Perle in the Whirlpool. Our traditional German Lager treatment reigns supreme: a slow and cold fermentation, spunding for 100% natural carbonation, and a long slumber in a Horizontal Lagering Tank.
It all starts with tantalizing notes of roasty Cacao, sweet Hazelnut, toasted Wheat bread, and just a hint of those intriguing beans. Got me thinking about those beans…uh, right…then it wraps up with a clean, crisp, and dry finish, precisely as we intended. Don’t let the dark appearance fool you; it’s easily one of our favorite Lager offerings to date, maintaining the high level of crushability you’ve come to expect from our Chippy Boi™ Lager Program.
