This Is Not A Duck
West Coast Pilsner – 6.5%
4PK – 16oz Cans

In 1929, Belgian surrealist artist Magritte painted The Treachery of Images and coined the infamous phrase, “Ceci n’est pas une pipe”, French for “This is not a pipe.” We would like to think that if they brewed beer, they would have made “This is Not a Duck”, an exciting West Coast Pilsner. And so, in their honor, we teamed up with the homies @hopflybrewing to riff on our absolutely nonsensical Duck theme of hop-forward collabs.

Why ducks? Honestly, we aren’t sure. BUT…we realized we hadn’t brewed a West Coast Pilsner in literal years, so we took a gander at the schedule and gave this one some wings! What’s a West Coast Pilsner? GLAD YOU ASKED! Essentially, think of a West Coast IPA with some extra crispness and a dialed down hop intensity to increase drinkability while still maintaining a firm bitterness and bold hop presence.

Mashed with a base of 100% @Riverbendmalt, comprised of Chesapeake Pilsner and a dash of Chit Malt. Hopped generously throughout the boil with Egger’s Riwaka and Whirlpooled heavily with Citra before being fermented low and slow with our House Lager Yeast and spunded for natural carbonation. It was then hit with a Dry Hop of Egger’s Motueka and Citra Cryo before being laid down for a slightly-shorter-than-normal rest in our Horizontal Lager Tanks.

We experience a body that just lets the hop oils roll right down it’s back, a VERY CRISPY and li’l body with a restrained Malt presence, a pleasant pop of Lemon-Lime Mike and Ike levels of Citrus, a balanced level of sticky-icky-dank-dank resinous bitterness, and juuuuuust a hint of those cutie little Orange wedge sugar candies. Much like a Duck, this is very cool, calm, and collected up top, but filled with a flurry of hop activity below (if below is, like, the flavor in this analogy…).

We love this ALMOST as much as we love the Hopfly crew. And we hope you feel the same!
