Zombs – Tiki Style Fruited Sour Ale (Collab w/ Benchtop Brewing)
Fruited Sour Ale – 6.5%
4PK – 16oz Cans
“ZOMBS” is our super loose take on a favorite Tiki drink of ours, THE ZOMBIE, made in collaboration with our sweetest of buds Benchtop Brewing. TIKI IS LIFE!
On one of our first trips to Richmond, VA, we ended up at The Jasper, this hip cocktail lounge that we heard had a killer Tiki cocktail on draft. As it turns out, their Draft Zombie should probably not be consumed in rapid succession, but it’s so dang good! When we started chatting with Eric from Benchtop Brewing, it turns out that he, too, shares a very strong affinity for this deliciously dangerous draft cocktail, and thus the idea was born: we must make a stab at recreating this recreation of a famous recreation of the Zombie cocktail. A riff on a riff on a riff, or something like that.
After months of planning and a few failed attempts to make the timing work, we finally had the immense pleasure of hosting Eric for a few days while we processed all the Limes, Grapefruits, Ginger, Almonds, Spices, etc that were necessary for this undertaking.
Mashed with Riverbend Malt 2-Row, a blast of Proximity Malt Wheat, and some Flaked Oats. Soured overnight in our Kettle, then boiled and hit in the Whirlpool with an arguably very aggressive amount of Pomegranate, Grapefruit zest and juice, Lime zest and juice, Ginger, and Almonds. Fermented on the cooler side with our House IPA yeast, and then conditioned on even more of all of these things, plus Nutmeg and Cinnamon for good measure. Yes, that is a whole long list of ingredients, but it all comes together in a supremely drinkable and balanced way. And at 6.5% ABV, you can actually slam a few of these Zombies! TIKI IN A CAN! IT’S ALL THE RAGE, RIGHT?!?!?!
To celebrate this collaborative achievement, we decided to throw the party we’ve been talking about for a long long time… TIKI PARTY, BABY!!! Gunther’s Boneyard Tiki Popup, to be exact! Join us this Friday, May 26th, starting at 5 PM as we celebrate the end of Asheville Beer Week along with the launch of our brand new beer, “The Hustle is Weird.”
