Granola Grundge – American Appalachian Lager
American Appalachian Lager – 4.6%
4PK – 16oz Cans
The crew over at Riverbend Malt asked us what we would make if we were simply given the prompt of “Appalachian Lager” and we were pretty stoked about the idea. We haven’t really defined our approach to Lager, but we do have a tendency to gravitate towards higher protein content and higher hopping rates with expressive hops. Of course, our Lager program is ALMOST exclusively Riverbend Malt (SORRY, but we do love Schwarzbier!), and when we found out that Bootleg Biology has a Lager Strain they isolated from Virginia, the Appalachian Lager dream was born!
Mashed with 100% Riverbend Malt comprised of a riffed out blend of Cumberland Pilsner, Chit Malt, Oat Malt, Wheat Malt, and Spelt Malt, and then slapped silly in the boil with Cascade before being slapped yet again with a wave of Michigan Centennial in the Whirlpool. Fermented low and slow with Bootleg Biology’s Arlington Lager strain, spunded for dat natty carb, and cold conditioned for maximum clarity and crispness.
We experience a full-bodied, yet crushable Lager from the Mountains! Notes of a fresh bag of Oyster Crackers slammed into your mouth in one gulp, a smidge of Stonefruit skins and subtle Citrus peel, some miscellaneous Wildflowers on the breeze, and just a pleasant little smile creeping across your face.
We hope you enjoy our take on this “Appalachian Lager” style as much as we do! Come find this beer at many events throughout Nashville for CBC, and tell us what you think!
